In 2006 Ken was the first non-Japanese citizen to be accepted as a professional Kabuki actor in the theater's 405 year history in Japan.  He was apprenticed to the National Living Treasure Nakamura Ganjiro III [now Sakta Toiyuro IV] and was given the stage name Nakamura Gankyo.  While still a member of Shochiku Grand Kabuki in Japan, he currently has dance studios in West Los Angeles and Monterey with his students known as Kyo No Kai.  Ken was also the producer and director of the 2008 Kimono Fashion Show at the Festival entitled "Colors of Japan" expressing Japan's bright colors with the embroidery in the Kimono.
