EMCEE: D.J. Carmin Wong

DJ Wong was born and raised in 7 mile, Detroit, Michigan. She was influenced musically at a young age by R&B, Hip Hop, and Soul, which were prolific in Detroit. She has had an ear for music since the day she was born. After moving to Los Angeles as a young teenager she started attending underground parties and became obsessed with the trance scene. Ever since, she has had a burning desire to get behind the decks. While pursuing a Real Estate Finance degree at University of Los Angeles, DJ Wong began working behind the scenes at events at the back lots of Universal studios, Paramount studios, events like the MTV Awards, BET Awards, Private Estates and boat parties. She worked behind the scenes with DJ’s who inspired her even more to pursue dj-ing and producing music on her own terms. She has been practicing and learning her skills and is now ready to rock the dance floor herself, with her style of music, a sense of trance, with cooling sensation music that has not yet been heard, music that will move people for generations to come. She has been in Los Angeles for over twenty years and watched the music industry change. She is currently working with some prominent music producers in the scene. She is currently in the studio and expected to release her own solo album, “Cooling” by December 2011. It will contain both remixes and original tracks. She hopes to be touring the world supporting her album after its release. She hopes that crowd’s can’t go wrong, with DJ Wong.

Ramen Tree & Choichi Kai
Ramen Tree is Japanese folk music at home in Los Angeles. The tunes may be familiar--many are hundreds of years old. But Ramen Tree re-imagines these classics in a Western Pop context. Whether it’s bossa nova, beach pop, or blues, the melodies that have been played in Japan for generations, sound a little different with the rhythms and instrumentation that come straight from the City of Angels. Japanese folk music has never sounded this vibrant, this modern and this cool before.

The infectious melodies and upbeat rhythms of the ancestral music of Okinawa have drawn musicians from all over the world to study and perform on the islands. Choichi Kai, LA Shibu is a group of Okinawan Sanshin players under the direction of Choichi Terukina, a Japanese National Living Treasure living in Okinawa. Led by Kyoushi Ryan Nakamatsu, the group was recently recognized as Terukina's first Dojo on the U.S. mainland. The group is a part of the Afuso Ryu school in Okinawa, and while they perform Okinawan Minyo and modern Okinawan Pop, Terukina and his dojo is best known for its performance of Koten, Okinawan Classical Music.
