2011 Blossom Award Ken Kaneska
Born and raised in Southern California. He graduated from UCLA with a BA in Political Science. He attended Tokyo University, and in 2001, was accepted into Shochiku Kamigata Kabuki Jyuku. In 2003 he graduated the top of his class and was apprenticed to National Living Treasure, Sakata Tojuro. He was granted the name of Nakamura Gankyo, becoming the first non Japanese citizen in the theatre's history, dating back to the early 1600s. He is currently back in the United States, were he earned his MA at USC and is currently working on his PhD at UCLA in Classical Japanese. He has also been a choreographer for television ads and shows.
